A preventive program is a cooperative effort by the patient, dentist, and dental staff to preserve the natural dentition and supporting structures by preventing the onset, progress, and recurrence of dental diseases and conditions. It includes regular dental exams, cleanings, and x-rays. Sealants, fluoride and screenings are also great preventive treatments that help protect the teeth.
Exams and Cleaning
Our friendly team at Cardinal Family Dental works to ensure that your smile is consistently healthy and clean. During your routine exam, our hygienists and dentists will complete a thorough exam of your gums and teeth. Research proves that regular visits to the dentist, combined with strong dental habits at home, can help prevent gum disease, gingivitis, and other dental problems. Dr. Balic will ensure that you are relaxed and comfortable throughout your exam – and will carefully review your situation to ensure that nothing stands in the way of your beautiful and healthy smile!
A standard part of each routine dental exam, Dr. Balic will administer gentle fluoride treatments to help strengthen the enamel of our patient’s teeth. Administering fluoride is a preventative dental solution that helps to guard teeth against caries – or tooth decay. A gel-like solution is simply applied to the surface of the teeth with a brush, allowing the mineral treatment to target weak areas of the tooth structure.
Sealants (Composite Dental Fillings)
A preventative solution to protect the chewing surfaces of teeth, dental sealants stand in the way of the detrimental effects of germs and food particles. Dr. Balic often recommends dental sealants for patients for younger patients, but the solution may be recommended for adult patients as well. Applying sealants is a simple and pain free process: Dr. Balic will simply apply a thin plastic coating on the grooves found on the surface of the teeth, and within a few minutes the solution will dry to provide an invisible shield of protection!
